Shelter Happenings

ON THE MOUNTAIN OF THE LORD, IT WILL BE PROVIDED

Through the generosity of God’s people Christian Shelter has been able to increase its capacity with the addition of three more family rooms furnished with new bunk and double beds and storage shelving. With the increase in capacity comes an increase in the number of people housed and support services needed, such as laundry capacity. As God gives the increase, so He provides for the need; as attested to by the recent delivery to Christian Shelter of a large, commercial washing machine specially built and donated by friends from DCM Enterprises in Salisbury.

TESTIMONY

“Is not this (person) a burning stick snatched from the fire?” (Zecharaiah 3: 2)  – “I should have been dead several times over”, a young female guest told us.  “I was hooked on morphine, cocaine, acid.  I was in a car crash that wrapped around a tree.  My life was spared by some miracle.  I didn’t know why until I came here (to Christian Shelter).  I found out in your devotions – it was God.  I never knew God loved me that much.  Now I know He’s got a purpose for me, and I’m gonna do it.  I never miss devotions, even when I have to work and don’t get back to the Shelter ‘til 7:30.  I’ll go in for the last part.  God’s always got something for me that I need to hear.”

“BEARING FRUIT IN EVERY GOOD WORK”

“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Luke 10: 2)

We thank God for the workers he has sent into his harvest field at Christian Shelter, including:

  • Those who serve on the Board of Directors (sent to help guide the ministry)
  • Those who serve in prayer ministry (sent to pray, organize prayer groups, join Board and staff in prayer at the Shelter on Wednesday at noon)
  • Those who serve as Weekend Volunteers (sent to relieve regular staff on weekends and holidays)
  • Those who serve in children’s ministry (sent to lead evening devotions)
  • Those who serve in communications ministry (sent to help prepare bi-monthly newsletters and major correspondence for mailing)
  • Those who serve in clothing ministry (sent to help organize and distribute clothing to needy people)
  • Those who serve in food ministry (sent to help prepare and serve meals in the evening and on weekends)
  • Those who serve in building and grounds maintenance and cleaning
  • Those who serve in the office (sent to help with office duties)
  • Those who serve in receiving, stocking, sorting donated food

As you may guess, volunteers come and go. They are always welcome. Do you have a heart for ministry to the homeless? Just complete this application and return it to the shelter.
