“But Jesus called the children to him and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”‘ (Matthew 19: 14)
Summer is just beginning and already 32 (almost half) of the 65 homeless people currently staying in the Shelter are children. When the weather is hot and people are thinking picnics, beaches and vacations, concern and resources for homeless people tends to dwindle. But when you’re on the street, the heat is hard to escape, and the number of homeless people seeking Shelter, llike the temperature, rises.
Perhaps the Lord is giving you a nudge to help take the heat off some homeless kids this summer, by: 1) coming to the Shelter for an hour or two during the day in July, August or September to guide some children in creative activities, games, Bible stories, etc., 2) persuading your church’s Vacation Bible School leader to consider holding your VBS here at Christian Shelter in our spacious Day Room and Dining Room and including the Shelter children, 3) donating some supplies for children’s activities such as crayons, construction paper, coloring books, children’s CDs (preferably Bible oriented), etc. Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name, welcomes me;” (Mark 9: 37)
